sonic outlaw : kein.tv ackowledges bono's contribution to the G8
Bono is here, performing with a south asian fusion band called Bangla in a rockstock to 'end all poverty'. Can't think what's more scheinheilig at the moment...the concert or the achtung baby from africa that reportedly cracked up into 3 pieces as it was floated down the WARNOW river. (the idea we were told was to have white people grab and climb onto the baby as she floated down the river, a symbolic gesture in solidarity...we fucked africa up?)
Anyway, to return to the programming for the piracy night...our effort to make piracy historic (and pay homage to bono)- we are bringing you one of the earliest copyright vs piracy documentaries, made in 1995 by Craig Baldwin.
In 1991 negativland took out an EP with a U2 bomber plane on the cover. the ep was a remix-parody of ...and i still haven't found what im looking for...U2/bono/island records sued them...the rest of this important IP history is in the film.
Craig Baldwin- is an early user of found footage and what he called ephemeral films...instructional videos, corporate films, science documentaries etc...his next film after Sonic Outlaws...spectres of the spectrum (made in 1999) is set in 2007 where the new electromagnetic order is completely taken over by the culture industry and can only be saved by time travel through the history of media technologies.
