the question then becomes: who is this being produced to? of course, the joy and grief of 2.0 anything is that the answer to this question can only be: dunno. but the goal would have to be something that is more than
a) 'a different perspective on events for those who've been there to watch afterwards'(because different perspectives are 10p a piece and the only difference between anyone else and me right now is that i'm up, writing a blog entry and cursing the hardware for not allowing me to edit the footage i have)
b) 'an artist's perspective on events'
(because artists are 10p a piece, and to produce something to be consumed as art has almost always the effect of preventing the production of any political effects; and because that phrase is used as a short-hand for 'a totally warped, subjective, navel-gazing perspective from someone who failed to leave their comfort zone and remained within the gemutlich space created by their peers, therefore failing to grasp anything of what could be a bigger picture'; and because i'm not an artist, heaven forbid.) (the feelings of guilt and political failure this possibility raises are not helped by the fact that the location of our 'newsroom' seems to put us in a very external position to whatever is happening out there.)
c) documentation
(because if we have established from the start that the question was not what is new, but why is there so little that is new, then what is there to document?)
d) the big picture
(because big pictures are 10p a piece, and always betray their pretension to universality by very squarely and visibly remaining within a certain particularity that has, as one of its less endearing quirks, the pretension to universality)
